CASS COUNTY - PHOTO OF THE WEEK It takes the right combination of rain and sun to make the corn grow this tall by the 4th of July and this photo was taken a few days before. Corn and the Cornhuskers may provide Nebraska with its national identity, but Cass County more than its share of soybeans as well. Do you know what crop ranks 3rd in our county for overall production? How about the total bushels of corn we produce compared to the most productive counties in the State for corn and/or soybeans? Final question - Do you have any idea where this photo was taken? Props to anyone that comes within 5 miles! |
Cass County produces more corn than any other crop with over 20,000,000 bushels/year. We also produce another $7,000,000 bushels of soybeans annually. The amount of land used for these two crops is virtually equal and crops are often rotated. The largest corn producing county in the state last year was Custer County with over 45,000,000 bushels. Our 3rd largest crop is hay. Did you know that? As for this photo - it was taken looking east from Webster Blvd just off of Hwy 75 in the extreme northeast part of the county. |
